I LOVE THE CHALLENGE

of reviving an old, tired or discarded piece of furniture and turning it into something beautiful and functional. From the moment you acquire that piece until the moment that you finish it, you follow a journey that is full of surprises. Often, the process of what to do and how to do it evolves out of unforeseen circumstances, but that's the fun of it. You never know where your inspiration will come from. I hope you enjoy these transformations, and that you are inspired to take on a project of your own.

WE HAVE CABINETS!

This is when things start to get really fun for me on a remodel...when you start putting things back.  Here's a peek at the kitchen.  Countertops, flooring and lighting are next.  The appliances are in the dining room...but not forever.  I replaced the very small wall oven with a pantry, and will be putting in a gas range to replace the  outdated electric cooktop.  As you can see, wallpaper removal is still "in process" - ugh!

REMODEL UPDATE - DEMO IS FUN!

There haven't been any pictures in a long time, but we've been busy.  Something about knocking through walls is very therapeutic.  The demo has uncovered a few surprises (like this vent pipe that needs to be relocated for the pantry, and a scary electrical splice that will be safely removed) but all are fixable.  In addition to the kitchen, the bathrooms are being updated along with a few tweaks to the entry.  This house is going to be a charmer when it's done.

Soon there will be brand new cabinets and appliances...

REMODEL, how to Repurpose

a whole house.  I just closed on a new, well 50-year-old,  house that needs a lot of updating!  It has a functional but tired kitchen, and ho-hum bathrooms that need a new attitude.   I'm looking forward to the challenge of bringing this home back to life in the 20-teens.  I'll keep posting as I make progress, and hope that this project inspires you to rethink repurposing.

BISTRO SET - REDEAUX

BEFORE
So, it may be too hot to sit outside these days, but at least there will be something inviting to look at from the window!  This was a makeover for some furniture that has spent way too many winters outside.  The prep for me is always the worst part (but I know, the most important), and these babies needed a lot of prep.  I like the "fun" finish stuff, like the painting and recovering that brings a piece to life.

FILE CABINET TURNED SERVING BUFFET

OUTDOOR DINING COUNTER

BEFORE
This is a lateral file cabinet that was not particularly attractive, and heavy, and impossible to move on my own.  So I added some wheels, painted it and added a tile countertop.  Wouldn't this be a great serving counter for a screened porch or outdoor dining area?  I used textured paint to give the metal some umph, and the fronts of the cabinet doors are covered with sheet cork.
